EBook Readers
What are ebook readers?
Gone are the days when everyone had a liking for a fat book which was almost equal to the person’s weight carrying them .Fat novels, reference books, encyclopedias are now things of the past. Today, we talk about graphical books, which are also called as eBooks or electronic books. These books have gained immense popularity within a short span of time. Their portable nature and easy readability due to a pool of features like bookmarking, making notes and annotations has made them more popular.
Kindle from Amazon (dot) com is an Epaper device. It was created with an aim of rendering eBooks and other media. It has surpassed its major competitors and the fact which itself explains the response it got, first Kindle was sold out in five and a half hours in November 2007. Kindle can store up to 4 GB of eBook data and has a USB port to insert the files into it. The content for Kindle can be downloaded from Amazon and other Kindle content providers in the AZW format which is a Kindle proprietary format. Kindle supports many available eBook formats like PDF, Mobipocket, TXT and many more. The first Kindle had fewer formats while PDF came in the second one. There is also a version of Kindle developed for the iPhone as an iPhone application.
EBooks have surely changed our viewpoint. Now whenever we think of books we remember those tiny graphical files saved on our computer’s hard disk. Devices like Kindle have changed the way eBooks and newspapers are read. EBook readers like Barnes and Noble’s Nook, the Sony reader, CyBook, iRex iLiad, etc are some of the presently famous eBook readers used by eBook lovers. These are all considered as rivals of Kindle, but Kindle still seems to be at the top like always.
